Summer Reading Assignment

 

All Andrews High School students are required to read the book assigned to their grade level or course.  After reading the book, answer the questions below on a separate sheet of paper.  On the first day of school, turn in the assignment along with the signed statements at the bottom of this sheet.  This assignment will count as a test grade for your English class.

 

Questions:

1.        What is the title and author of the book?

 

2.       What is the setting of the book?  Where and when does the story take place?  Provide details to create a clear picture of the setting.  Tell how the setting affects the plot and themes of the book (minimum 5 sentences).

 

3.       Who are the main characters?  Describe each character and explain their connection to one another.  Choose one character to describe in more detail.  For that character, find a quote from the book that describes the character and his/her role within the novel (minimum 10 sentences).

 

4.       What is the plot of the book?  Retell the main events in the story (minimum 8 sentences).

 

5.       What is the conflict of the book?  What is the problem for the character(s) in the story?  Be specific (minimum 5 lines).

 

6.       What is the resolution of the conflict?  How is the problem solved?  Be specific (minimum 5 sentences).

 

7.       What is the theme of the book?  What is the message that the author sends readers in this story  (minimum 5 sentences)?

 

8.       What is your reflection on the book?  What is your personal opinion of the book?  How do you feel about the characters and the theme?  Explain in detail (minimum 7 sentences).
